Skogskabinettet

MUSICAL PERFORMANCE & SOUNDING OBJECTS

(The Forest Cabinet)

Skogskabinettet is the title of a scenic concert based on an ongoing collaboration between Ida Höög (recorder), Anna Eriksson (composer) and Ann Petersson Malmstedt (visual artist). The title focuses on nature's relationship with us humans. By reading and interpreting nature's events and signs in music and scenery, we create a performance where the voice of the forest can communicate.

Composed, notated parts are mixed with improvisation. The music is composed for different types of recorders and sound objects. The objects are associated with the forest and are presented on stage in a large cabinet - a piece of furniture inspired by the Renaissance cabinet of curiosities. The musician uses the objects freely in the improvisational parts. At the end of the performance, the audience is welcome on stage for a moment of interaction and improvisation.

We apply ecoscenography, i.e. the props are made from natural materials/objects, alternatively from recycled materials.

Premiere in Gothenburg 2026 (Levande Musik).

Preliminary performances:

Kalvfestivalen aug 2026, Ravinen Kulturhus (Båstad), Nyttfestivalen (Småland), Molekyl Galleri (Malmö).

The cabinet displays the sound objects during the performance. It is intended to be easy to transport, and is therefore built in three parts.

The design of the cabinet mostly retains natural, unprocessed materials. Some parts of the cabinet are decorated, and the inspiration comes from, for example, illustrations in nature reference books. Aesthetic influences come from cabinets of curiosity and altar cabinets from older times.

Sound objects, examples

The various recorders in the performance are refined wind instruments. Their sound characteristics are contrasted by handmade sound objects, which can be categorized as string instruments, percussion, aerophones, automata (simple mechanical devices) and sounding costumes.
